THIS May, the Manchester YMCA is taking part in one of the UK’s toughest challenges to raise money for a project working with Salford Young Carers Service.
The Y Club, Manchester’s largest and friendliest health club, and the Castlefield Hotel are joining together to participate in the National Three Peaks Challenge. A team of eight will be climbing the highest mountains of England (Scafell Pike), Wales (Snowdon), and Scotland (Ben Nevis) – all within just 24 hours.
The Manchester YMCA will climb the peaks to raise money for a project they will run to create opportunities for young carers in Salford to achieve positive outcomes in their education, physical and mental health, socialisation and careers through a programme that both addresses issues with confidence and self esteem and builds social skills for employment.
For these young people caring responsibilities can cause in problems at school which result in poor achievement and failure to engage in education, training or employment once they’ve left. Young people who have few dreams, aspirations and visions for the future beyond caring – this local project will make sure that someone is looking out for them too.
