MANCHESTER PRIDE has launched a new cultural programme of activity that will run throughout 2015.

As part of the charity's 25 anniversary celebrations, Superbia (deriving from the Latin word meaning Pride) is showcasing a diverse programme of art, theatre, music and comedy to celebrate LGBT culture in the city.

Trailblazing events kicked off with Superbia’s partnership with Queer Contact Festival back in February.

During the Spring, highlighted events include Jonathan Harvey’s Beautiful Thing, a 'glorious urban love story between two young men set on an inner city housing estate' at The Lowry 13-18 April (including a post-show discussion with cast members). It stars award-winning actress, Charlie Brooks, best known for her role as ‘Janine Butcher’ in EastEnders.

In May featured programmes include the annual Sexuality Summer School for post-graduates, which will be curated by The University of Manchester with a series of splinter events at venues including Contact.

Many more events and activities will be added through the year along with the annual Pride Fringe programme in August, leading up to Manchester Pride Festival’s Big Weekend 2015, which runs from Friday 28 until Monday 31 August.

Mark Fletcher, Chief Executive of Manchester Pride, said: “We wanted to reinvigorate and build on our cultural offering for this special anniversary year. Manchester is home to an abundance of vibrant LGBT and relevant cultural activities and presenting them under our new Superbia banner is the ideal platform to bring them together and reach new audiences.”
