GOING day into night is a skill only some possess, but brand-new Banyan Spinningfields is one of them – and it looks as if it’s going to give The Ivy a run for its money when that opens soon slap bang opposite. Billed as “a stylish and genuine bar serving beautiful food and drink all day, all night”, Banyan is open every day from 10am until late, dishing up breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and dancing all week long.

Beautiful, classy, stylish. The purpose-built Banyan Spinningfields is split over two levels, with a mezzanine primed for people-watching. Surrounded by the area’s glass-fronted edifices reflecting redbrick heritage, sleek and chic is where it’s at. Mirrored and marble surfaces, muted blues and greens on the walls, rose gold and brass fittings, fixtures from bar stools and swivel chairs to booths and banquettes: Banyan gives you luxe looks without standing on ceremony.
Cocktails and mocktails are the order of the day, starting with the Garibaldi – a staple breakfast cocktail at NYC’s renowned Dante Bar – and a morning pick-me-up Bloody Mary, and running right through to the wee small hours, when the Bourbon-based Sinatra Select is perfect and the Nordic Iced Tea sounds suitably winter wonderland for this time of year. The Gin Paradise menu does what it says, and the wine list and beer offer will both take you on a round-the-world trip.
