SINGLE and broken-hearted city dwellers need not suffer alone this Valentine’s Day as Manchester’s very own chanteuse is offering a soothing evening of song.

“L’Amour is a collection of unique arrangements of songs about love. I’m hoping the audience will join me on the journey - regardless of the language.”

After becoming popular on the Manchester circuit, professional singer Lucy Hope has announced her first show on Thursday 14 February at The Melody Club, Manchester’s well kept musical-venue secret, under Café Istanbul, on Bridge Street.

Performinginterpretations of classic songs in both French and English, Lucy will unveil her show called L’Amour, a musical journey of both love and pain. She will be accompanied by live musicians including Naomi Koop on the fiddle and Richard Wetherall on piano and accordion.

Manchester born Lucy said: “I’ve designed the show to offer an alternative Valentine’s evening which I hope will appeal to anyone with a passion for music.

“L’Amour is a collection of unique arrangements of songs about love. I’m hoping the audience will join me on the journey - regardless of the language.”

The collection includes songs by Brel, Piaf and Brassens. But the show should not just appeal to melancholic Francophiles as there will also be original interpretations of work by Anglophone artists such as James Taylor and Dusty Springfield delivered in Gallic-influenced style.

Lucy’s passion for French music was born when she completed a master’s degree in French Literature and Philosophy at the University of Oxford. After living in Bordeaux for a year, her singing style became heavily influenced by French narrative classics and chanson.

Fast becoming a firm favourite among some of Manchester's own legends, Lucy recently performed at Manchester City legend Mike Summerbee’s Christmas luncheon and for Sir Alex Ferguson’s private birthday celebrations. She also regularly sings for Manchester United’s corporate sponsors at Old Trafford’s Platinum Suite at home games.

The show starts at 9pm. Those who want to enjoy the full supper club experience can also book a full Valentine’s Package, which includes a fizz reception, dinner and show, starting at 7pm.
