CORNERHOUSE and Library Theatre Company, who merged to become one company in April, are asking people to help them create the identity for their new home at First Street, Manchester, where they’ll be moving in 2014.
The new building will be a catalyst for the regeneration of the First Street area of Manchester.
A new website www.thiswillbesomewhere.com has been launched. Anyone can visit the site to share their ideas and thoughts and play a part in shaping the character, atmosphere and ultimately the name of the organisation.
Dave Moutrey, Chief Executive, comments:“Our new home will be a place for everyone and we wanted to reflect this in the way that that its identity is developed. We would like to hear as many ideas from as many people as possible, and will be using these comments to create something that we hope will be as well-loved as both Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company are.”
The new website is supported by a series of workshops talking to current and new audiences, stakeholders, artists, staff and young people, which will take place throughout June 2012. Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company are working with Manchester-based Creative Concern on the workshops.
The new name will be revealed in October 2012 and will be fully launched when the organisation moves to its new home on First Street, central Manchester, in 2014. Creative Concern is collaborating with Glasgow-based O Street on the visual identity for the new organisation. Cornerhouse and Library Theatre will continue to work under their existing names until then.
The new building will be a catalyst for the regeneration of the First Street area of Manchester and will include a 500 seat theatre, 120-150 flexible studio space, 500m² 4m high gallery space, 5 cinema screens, education spaces, digital production and broadcast facilities, café bar, restaurant and offices. It will provide new opportunities for artists and audiences to create work in a different way together, as well as a social and cultural hub.
