AFTER a successful launch in March, Levenshulme Market is back on Saturday 17 May with its Fashion and Flea Market.
Over 50 traders will sell an eclectic range of vintage and designer clothes and homewares including upcycled chairs from All For Belle, bespoke leather bags and purses from Where The Flowers Grow, design-oriented secondhand books and zines from Cabin Creative and handmade soy candles in vintage glass and China cups from Tipsy Hedgehog.
As well as all things fashion and flea, the market offers food staples like bread, cheese and cake to take away. (Is cake a staple? We think so.) There's also street food and a full bar serving real ale and that all-important Saturday morning Bloody Mary.
Levenshulme Market is an artisan community market that runs every Saturday from 10am-4pm on the Levenshulme Train Station car park between March and December. The market was re-launched last year by the community as a social enterprise with support from Manchester City Council. It was a runaway success with stallholders and shoppers alike, and has now gone from monthly to weekly.
Market director Helen Power said, “Last year we were blown away by the enthusiasm of traders and customers and it solidified our suspicions – that Manchester needs a truly independent artisan market shopping destination.
“We’re really excited about our Fashion and Flea Markets for this year – it's a showcase for independent retailers and a fun shopping experience that you can’t get anywhere else in the North West.”
Levenshulme Market offers shoppers a weekly alternative to the supermarkets with food like bread, cheese, eggs, meat and fruit and veg making up around a third of the stalls. The remainder are grouped around rotating weekly themes – details of these in the box below.
The first market of this year on 29 March attracted a huge crowd of shoppers all day. There was a fantastic range of stalls and three new regular features: a real ale bar, a large covered seating area and a market cafe.
The Fashion and Flea Market runs from 10am-4pm on Saturday 17 May at Levenshulme Train Station. Find out more at our Levenshulme Market pages.
