Stand out from the crowd in timeless pieces including cotton t-shirts made in Manchester
The best-dressed gents know that Lanigan & Hulme is a byword for classic British fashion. Clothes that make you look good and feel good - from brands with real pedigree.
Now the carefully-curated store has extended its collection to include womenswear too. Expect the same dedication to sourcing designs from some of the country’s top brands, and shining a light on some oft-overlooked names.
New womenswear for the AW2020 season includes gorgeous yet practical cross-body bags and satchels from The Cambridge Satchel Company. They’re as traditional as they come but you’ll find their bags in the coolest places – from the pages of Vogue to New York Fashion Week.
There are also cute hats from heritage brand Harris Tweed and tobacco brown coats from family company Bucktrout Yorkshire Tweed. It’s a must-have fabric this season but it’s something that never goes out of style.
Relax in exquisitely-cut jeans from Welsh denim experts Hiut and team them with snuggly Lanigan & Hulme Knitwear made by Master Knitwear makers Johnstons of Elgin. Lanigan & Hulme know all the brands to give your wardrobe the edge. And if you want any styling advice, these guys are sartorial professionals and their friendly store in the Royal Exchange Arcade is the place for a diverting and informative chat – and maybe a wee drink and a hello to their two gorgeous bulldogs, Babs and Bertie. Everything is also available online too.
It’s the carefully-curated selection of contemporary and classic brands that really put Lanigan & Hulme ahead in the style-stakes. There are modern designs from Wax London, whose overshirts are one of this season’s must-haves, and fashion-footwear from Bolton brand Walsh whose casual heritage trainer collection mixes cool retro styling with an impeccable sense of history and local pride. If Norman Walsh is good enough to make the shoes for Roger Bannister’s four-minute mile, that’s more than good enough for us.
There’s also an exciting new label that’s a future classic to be found at Lanigan & Hulme and it’s… Lanigan & Hulme. Their own-label men’s T-shirts are made in Manchester from bale to cloth to tee by English Fine Cottons.
They’re the only commercial cotton spinners in the country and, pleasingly, their innovative business is housed in a once-derelict Victorian mill. There’s a lovely symmetry about their story and the quality of their ethically-sourced cotton is simply second to none.
Of course, as well as womenswear and a new line in classic tees, you can always rely on Lanigan & Hulme for beautifully tailored clothes. From shortening trousers to taking in a shirt, if it’s a Lanigan & Hulme outfit, it has to look perfect and these guys know exactly how to get that right.
