Confidentials tries the new summer dishes at the award-winning restaurant

When you think summer, you think ice cream, picnics and strawberries in the sun.

You don’t think curry.

Well Lily’s has some new summer dishes that means it is still the place to go in a heatwave.

Confidentials went to try them out on a day so hot it could have melted the tarmac and the food definitely got the thumbs up.

First up, Lily’s is a cool and airy place for a meal. There’s only so much sunshine you can take - mad dogs and Englishmen and all that - so an air-conditioned lunchtime retreat is the perfect respite from rising temperatures.

Avocado chaat

We tried the avocado chaat and this seasonal update on the street food classic is exactly what summer eating is about. It’s cool and creamy with zing from red onions and freshness from tomatoes plus all the pleasurable crispy bits that make chaat such fun.

Paneer poppers

If it comes in a cone, it must be summer, right? These fried, breadcrumbed cheesy balls come in a poppadom cone with a fresh, vibrant green coriander chutney. There’s something of the fairground or the pier about this snacky delight.

Dahi Vada

These lentil dumplings are unusual. They straddle the boundary between sweet and savoury but are mainly just super-refreshing. Doused in yoghurt, they’re like a raita version of gulab jamun and the ideal cooling accompaniment to a hot day or a hot and spicy snack.

Volcano Sizzler

This video says it all.

It may be sizzling outside but you still crave a Lily’s sizzler - it’s one of life’s strange truths. But as all the paneer is home-made, it just tastes so good. The charred edges are just the best, bringing summer bbq notes to our favourite Lily’s dish.

Don’t let summer in the city let you get all hot under the collar. Head out to Ashton for the coolest Indian dishes you’ll find. You can see the restaurant from the tram stop; it’s so close you can almost taste that Lily’s flavour.
