A cross between a waffle and a donut, Splendid’s Whoa-nuts are a delicious, sticky treat – perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up or eating on the go.
The highly tempting hybrid starts life as a hand-poured waffle before being deep fried and dipped in a range of donut-style glazes and toppings, from jam-filled to four kinds of chocolate (Chocolots), to Lemon Meringue, to Fresh Raspberry and White Chocolate.
Splendid delivered a batch of the sweet treats to the Confidential office where they were devoured in minutes. The Nutella was gloriously nutty and moreish. The Fresh Raspberry and White Chocolate was refreshing and seductively sweet. But the Lemon Meringue was the clear favourite: a squidgy, zingy, doughy slice of heaven.
A limited number of freshly made Whoa-nuts are available to buy from the counter at Splendid Sausage Co every day. They’re priced from £2 to £3, depending on the toppings.
Splendid Sausage Co is on John Dalton Street, just off Albert Square. It’s open Monday to Saturday, noon til 10pm, and on Sunday, noon til 9pm.
