If you’re still not sure about going back to pubs and restaurants, maybe the news that colourful container city Hatch is reopening on 4th July could tempt you out of the house. With its wide open outdoor space and street food stalls, bars and shops housed in individual shipping containers, Hatch is big enough to be able to take socially distancing very seriously.

Hatch will be reopening this weekend (4th & 5th July), then will initially be open Wednesday to Saturday 12-9pm and Sunday 12-6pm.
Like an outdoor, more food-driven younger sibling to the recently reopened Afflecks, Hatch is packed with independents. The whole hospitality industry is struggling, but while huge corporations like ‘Spoons have billionaires behind them (and unceremoniously fired loads of their staff in March, remember?), Hatch is driven by individuals trying to do something different who really do rely on your custom to stay afloat.

With the pandemic far from over, many of us are concerned about safety when considering whether a long-awaited jaunt to the pub is worth it. The team at Hatch have outlined their new safety measures, which include hand sanitiser points at entrances, a contact-free digital ordering system, a new table layout with dining at tables only, socially distanced table service, and a revised capacity limit. Guests will be shown to tables where they will be able to order and pay for their entire meal and drinks using the Hatch Good Eats web page.
Hatch house rules
- When you arrive at Hatch, please wait at the entrance until a table becomes available.
- Keep a safe distance and be patient and kind to staff and other guests - we are all in this together.
- Make sure you wash your hands when entering and leaving the site and avoid touching surfaces wherever possible (hand sanitiser provided at the entrance).
- Once you are seated, please stay at your allocated table. The toilets are open for use but for the safety of all guests we would appreciate it if you limit your movements around the site.
- Place your food and drink order online by visiting Good Eats. You will find QR codes for each trader on your table. Simply take a photo or visit Hatch online.
- If you are beginning to show symptoms of coronavirus or have been asked to self isolate, please do not enter.
Each trader’s menu will be browsable via guests’ phones and QR codes visible on the tables. Of course, all the individual traders have done their own risk assessments and there will be increased site-wide cleaning procedures.

Our approach provides a way to experience excellent food and drink, and to support local independent businesses in a COVID-safe but social setting. We know this has been a tough time for everyone and we’re looking forward to supporting our eclectic family of traders in doing what they do best in this next chapter for Hatch.”
