Come on, admit it, the Olympic Games in Rio have got you in the mood. We see you there in your sequinned headdress, sipping on a Caipiranha whilst shaking your hips to a samba beat – but there’s a time and a place for such behaviour and, if you don’t mind us pointing out, perhaps Monday morning in the office isn’t it.

Not only will they guide you on your very own (well, near enough) road to Rio, they’ll also feed you

What you need to do is head down to Manchester’s Corn Exchange where you’ll find Cabana, the buzzing Brasilian barbecue. Not only will they guide you on your very own (well, near enough) road to Rio, they’ll also feed you.

Available until 19th September, Cabana is offering a Menu of Champions to help you reach for gold and get a taste of what the teams will be eating in Rio. With a bit of expected ceremony, first they’ll present you with their best selling chilli and cumin marinated 8oz Cabana grass fed steak, straight off the skewer. For a bit of added kick, you’ll also get a pot of delicious chimichurri sauce – a vibrant staple of Brasilian cuisine with blended fresh herbs, oil and garlic. For extra energy, they’ll bring a bowl of Biro-Biro rice topped with crispy fried onions and a turbo-boosting side dish of glistening Rio Beans.

Apparently no breakfast, lunch or dinner in Brazil is complete without a side order of pão de queijo – cheesy dough balls to you and I, and these are included in Cabana’s Menu of Champions along with a pot of delicious garlic butter. So that’s steak, rice, beans, sauce and cheesy dough balls (although, these are fabulously more cheese than dough) for only £19.95. All you need is a pair of slightly gritty flip flops, then close your eyes and ‘ay caramba!’ you are practically in a beachside cafe on Copacabana beach.

What’s more, you can get the whole family involved as kids eat free at Cabana, with every paying adult, throughout the month of August. The children’s menu comes with crayons, colouring in sheets of a Rio cityscape, stickers to dress Harold the Cabana mascot, puzzles and a quiz. Unfortunately, our kids were so engrossed in the wordseach, we ended up having to hand feed them their starter of cucumber sticks with sweet potato hoummus.

After that, they were ready to feast thanks to a more interesting range of child friendly options including Mozzarella Torrado (it’s a toastie), Mild Coconut Curry with chicken breast mini skewer, or a classic beefburger. With a choice of corn on the cob, French fries or Biro-Biro rice, you can make sure you’re sneaking in some vegetable matter for the more reluctant ones (ketchup counts as a vegetable, honestly, Google it.)

On the children’s menu at Cabana, desserts are carnival queen with Apple Slices with Honey Dip or a choice of Doce De Leite (caramel) or peanut butter frozen yoghurt with your choice of toppings such as Chocolate Flakes, Smarties, Caramel Sauce or Brasilian Peanut Candy. Despite working their way through all that, they only had eyes for what was supposed to be my grown-up, adult dessert ‘Bolinhos de Chuva.’ Who are we kidding? Once these delicious fried doughnuts stuffed with Nutella with more Nutella to dip them in arrived at the table, I was never really ever going to get a look in.

What’s more, as sharing is caring, Cabana will be adding an optional £1 to every bill during the summer Olympic games (5th August-19th September) to support the vital work undertaken by Brazil’s Children’s Trust to fund projects that protect and empower vulnerable children.

So, to get into the carnival spirit, sunny Cabana’s the place to be this month. We were being very child-friendly on this visit, but we’re coming back on our own soon to try one or two of the twelve Caipirinha’s on the menu, classic cocktails or even an iced pitcher or three.
