Manchester bean buffs have a blooming new Bridge Street store
Manchester coffee specialists Grindsmith have revealed plans to open a new coffee bar and brunch spot in Manchester city centre.
Taking over the ground floor space formerly occupied by Sundowners Travel Centre at 62 Bridge Street, just off Deansgate, Grindsmith will form part of the building's remarkable transformation, which has seen the dull grey exterior replaced with floral crystal mosaic cladding and the upper floors converted into trendy workspaces by developer Watch This Space.
Grindsmith began in 2013, when Tomlinson and Gibson launched a Kickstarter campaign to open a 5 x 3 metre pod
Featuring the brand's signature slick design, the new coffeeshop will feature a horseshoe shaped bar area, a living plant wall, a 'theatre kitchen' and a 'floating botanical raft' (we've no idea either - maybe they've got a pool?).
Grindsmith say they hope the new branch will become the city's 'hottest new brunch place', appealing to the 'business set' of nearby Spinningfields and the 'ever increasing brunch crowd'.
The menu will include all the Grindsmith favourites, such as the Full English & Vegan breakfasts, Power Bowls and stacked buttermilk pancakes, and their own brand coffee, roasted in their Manchester coffee lab and roastery.
Co-founder Luke Tomlinson said: “The store has been designed with fantastic service and experience in mind. We wanted to treat our customers to a stunning environment that feels very different to anything they’ve had elsewhere in the city where they can still enjoy all their favourite Grindsmith classics."
Tomlinson's business partner, Peter Gibson, added: “Alongside the improved workflow at the bar and dedicated restaurant team, we are also introducing a market-first app that will enable our customers to order their drink and food from their phone. The aim is to speed up service so our team can focus on crafting the perfect coffee and brunch for every visitor."
Michelle Rothwell, founder of Watch This Space, said: “This building has been unloved for some time and needs new life injecting into it. We want to turn workspace on its head and create new ways of working and are delighted to have Grindsmith below to cater for our tenants.”
Grindsmith began in 2013, when Tomlinson and Gibson launched a Kickstarter campaign to open a five by three metre wooden pod on Greengate Square, followed by a coffee trike, then a coffeeshop on Deansgate and most recently in MediaCityUK.
Grindsmith Bridge Street opens late 2018/early 2019.
