Steak night just got a lot more exciting with this limited offer

It’s likely you’ve heard of The Stannylands. You might have even been. For decades it was *the* place to go for a cracking Sunday lunch, afternoon tea or family celebration. People have been flocking to this Cheshire hotel restaurant from nearby Wilmslow, Handforth and Cheadle for years for a delicious dinner and something decent to wash it down with.

The Stannylands hotel and restaurant was bought by independent family-owned brewery JW Lees in Feb 2018. If you haven’t visited for a while, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to discover a comfortable bar area leading on to a contemporary, light and airy ‘Tap & Pantry’ restaurant and Grill Room.

Just off the beaten track, the restaurant at Stannylands is now just as popular for lunch or dinner during the week. Throughout the year, they introduce various special deals and set menus that are more imaginative and much better value than you’ll find at many other hotel restaurants.

We’ve got a bit excited about their new 'Cut Above' steak nights, which they’re putting on every Thursday evening for a limited time only - from 21st February to the 21st March. As regulars will already know, Stannylands don’t do things by halves and this is an astoundingly good offer of a steak and a side for £15....but there’s more to it.

The steak is a perfectly aged, gorgeously tender 6oz fillet, sourced especially from high class butchers, William's of Flint, cooked how you like (we highly recommend no more than medium, if you want it at its absolute best, but that’s up to you) and glazed with delicious pan roasted gravy.

A side dish is included and there are a lot to choose from; house cut chips, creamy mash, a barbecued corn cob, buttered spinach, rocket and parmesan salad, or our favourite, creamed Savoy cabbage and cured bacon (we like to make sure we’re looking after our iron levels). You are more than welcome to bung in another side dish for an extra £3 or properly pimp up your fillet with a portion of posh fries with truffle oil and a sprinkling of Parmesan for £4.50, or go full surf ‘n’ turf with a trio of king prawns in light tempura batter (£7.50.)

The ‘Cut Above’ comes with pan juice gravy, but a selection of classic sauces (peppercorn, blue cheese, béarnaise and Diane) are also available (£2) – excellent for dipping chips in. We won’t tell.

Obviously JW Lees are well known for the quality and variety of their drinks, but there’s more to them than beer. They really do know their stuff when it comes to wine too, so have come up with a couple of excellent suggestions that match perfectly.

You can get a bottle of Quara Argentinian Malbec 2016 for a very reasonable £27 (or by the glass from £6.90.) It’s rich, fruity and smooth but has mellower tannins than its French counterparts, allowing it to pair beautifully with rich red meats like the fillet steak. If you fancy pushing the boat out just a little more (well, what you save on food, you may as well spend on drink) Stannylands also recommend Viña Albino reserve 2013 - a classic Spanish Rioja elegant on the nose with hints of wood and orchard fruits.

Treat yourselves to a cut above the rest, with this very special offer every Thursday evening (6.30pm - 9.30pm) for a limited time only, until March 21st. (Reservations must be made by 12pm the day of arrival and not to be used in conjunction with any other offers including vouchers.)
