FOR their 'Asian High Tea' Grand Pacific have created a stunning set of edibles. Beauty might be in the eye of the beholder but it can be in their cakehole too.

Two examples of attention to detail here includes the exquisite teaware from Jing and the way wasabi is grated at your table. The latter is a proper piece of  theatre.

As befits a 'high tea' the food arrives on handsome silver stands but instead of cucumber sandwiches and chocolate eclairs you get an exquisite collation of sushi, nigiri and other exotica followed by a symphony of sweets including panna cotta, sweet spring rolls and 'friands'.

Yes, friands.

Friands are not a marketing term for a new motoring phone package but a very light sponge cake.

Because this is Grand Pacific, hence a heap load of ocean, the two three-tiered deliveries are called Wave One and Wave Two. The first wave comes with a complimentary glass of Australian champagne, the second with loose leaf or flowering tea.

There are lots of clever little touches as befits a Living Ventures' operation (this is Spinningfields after all, think Alchemist, Oast House, Australasia, Artisan, McDonalds - ok not the latter). Two examples of attention to detail here includes the exquisite teaware from Jing and the way wasabi is grated at your table. The latter is a proper piece of  theatre.

The food itself comes from the kitchens of one of the city's best restaurants Australasia, which connects with Grand Pacific underneath Armani. In a way you could say this is Australasia's foxy little sister.

The outside space at Grand Pacific is verdant, a forest of bamboo under a white canopy with colonial style seating. Inside there's tall opulent scale to the place. Grand is the right word.

Enough of that. Here comes the food porn.

Grand Pacific is at 1 The Avenue, Spinningfields, M3 3AP.0161 831 0288. View the menu here.  The Asian High Tea costs £25 per person.
