The University of Bolton has joined forces with UTC Bolton to create a mouth-watering menu of educational treats for crowds at this year’s Bolton Food and Drink Festival.
This is the 11th year of the festival, which in 2015, attracted 200,000 visitors over the four days.
During the four day culinary extravaganza, organised by Bolton Council and also sponsored by the university, crowds will be able to get a taste of the mouth-watering courses on offer.
Six stands will showcase a fabulous taste of what the University and UTC bring to Bolton. In the Education Zone, on Le Mans Crescent, the University’s Centre for Advanced Performance Engineering is serving up a competition where five lucky visitors can win an incredible track experience in the University’s Ginetta G55.
Our racing stars Anna Walewska and Kelvin Fletcher will be there to meet you on Monday 29 August and will be more than happy to tell you all about the University’s motorsport courses.
Kelvin Fletcher, who until earlier this month played Andy Sugden in the long-running television soap opera Emmerdale, competes in the British Touring Car Championship with Power Maxed Racing. Anna Walewska is the British Women Racing Drivers Club Elite Goldstars Award winner and races in the British GT Championship. And you can see our racing cars in Victoria Square and Le Mans Crescent.
We have a filling main course of learning fun for children, including pasta-themed Messy Science where visitors are tasked with building the highest tower out of spaghetti. The winner receives a University of Bolton hamper of gifts.
The University’s Bolton School of the Arts will run a children’s competition too, for visitors to design their own plate. The best will be shared on social media and the most popular win an array of gifts.
There will even be something to take away as students’ paintings, photographs and textile designs will be on sale.
Meanwhile the Sport and Biomedical Sciences department will be talking about anatomy and movement on their stand, including demonstrations relating to health and fitness.
UTC Bolton and the University’s Health and Human Sciences will also be present showcasing their courses and opportunities for students.

This year, Michelin-starred Michael Caines will officially launch the festival on Friday, August 26 in the newly unveiled Vaults in the Market Place Shopping Centre. The celebrity chefs’ marquee, on Victoria Square, will host festival headliners, Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain and TV favourites John Torode and James Martin.
Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris, added: ‘We are delighted that the University are a premier sponsor this year. It will be a fantastic opportunity for them and the UTC to showcase the innovative courses they have on offer.
‘The fun they have in store will appeal to all ages which is perfect, as the festival is aimed at entertaining the whole family.’
