Popular Northern Quarter café bar to open second branch in January
Popular Northern Quarter coffee and brunch specialists Federal are planning to open a second branch on Deansgate early next year.
Federal’s new city centre cafe will be at number 194, next door to the newly opened Manahatta (also known for their brunches, of the boozy bottomless sort), and have twice the capacity of the original venue on Nicholas Croft, near Shudehill.
The menu will still carry a distinct Antipodean coffee bar influence with classic all day brunch dishes including French toast, banana bread, eggs Benedict and the somewhat ubiquitous smashed avocado and eggs.
They will also introduce comforting breakfast classics for winter including hazelnut and cacao porridge, with toasted hazelnuts, dark chocolate and poached pears.
As with the Northern Quarter branch, they will also offer a similar range of craft beers, natural wines and cocktails. But its coffee Federal has become renowned for, thanks to its range of single origin coffees from London’s Ozone coffee roasters and baristas who know how to get the best from a bean.
The new Deansgate venue will have extended opening hours and is planning to host various events from seasonal supper clubs to guest chef pop-ups. Work has just begun on fitting out the new café bar, which is due to open in January 2019.
