IF you’re out and about in town today, be sure to check out Estate Recordings pop-up shop on Shude Hill.
For one day only, the shop will be doling out great tunes, free drinks and goodie bags in celebration of lyricist/producer Skittles’ new album, ‘Poor With £100 Trainers.’ The Manchester lad has already got a fan in BBC Radio 1's Mary Anne Hobbs who described him as one of the best writers of our time, so catch him while you can.
"The thing the artists have in common is that they all make good music and they’re local. There isn’t one to watch, watch them all." - Strategy
As well as his album, you can pick up music by other artists on the label plus clothing and artwork. They’re a talented bunch the Estate lot.
Headed by the Broke 'N’ English boys, Strategy and MC DRS, Estate Recordings is using its recent UMBRO bursary to inject cash into the label and promote Manchester talent such as Skittles.

They have a whole bunch of local artists on the label, which Strategy describes as "genreless":
“We want to promote music that you can’t pin down. The thing the artists have in common is that they all make good music and they’re local. There isn’t one to watch, watch them all.”
As well as Skittles, the label have also signed Dub Phizix who, along with Skeptical, recently released the hypnotic track Marka which has been gaining in popularity and become a favourite of top drum and bass DJs in clubs around the world.
The shop’s open until 6pm to buy any of the stuff, then after 7pm Skittles will be doing a live acoustic performance. There’ll also be musical contributions and good vibes from Broke ‘N English, DubPhizix and others on the label.
If you can’t catch the Estate Recordings crew today, fear not because there’s another launch party for ‘Poor With £100 Trainers’ at the Deaf Institute on Monday 5 March.
