Fresh, fast and furious – add pasta to your fitness plan
SPRING’S here and there’s some more good news: carbs aren’t bad for you! Which means you don’t have to blow the diet if you tuck into Vapiano’s delicious dishes – and they’ll even boost your exercise and fitness training regime. Eat Pasta, Run Faster, says Vapiano – and with eleven different types to pick from, who are we to argue?
Behind the scenes in Vapiano’s kitchens, there is the bespoke Manifattura – where the chefs make all the pasta fresh daily, including two spelt types. The basic recipe consists of just two carefully selected ingredients – water and durum wheat semolina – it’s the various different hand-turned machines that make the different shapes, from campanelle to pappardelle.
For its Eat Pasta, Run Faster campaign, the restaurant has teamed up with registered dietician and nutritionist Dr Sarah Schenker, who says: “It’s important to balance your carbohydrate intake with plenty of protein. The delicious pasta dishes from Vapiano can be a big part of your fitness plan whether you’re a runner, cyclist, body builder or partake in any regular sport.” Dr Schenker recommends any of Vapiano’s pasta with either Bolognese or Pomodoro sauce, or the Rucola Ravioli – mini pasta packages stuffed with rocket and ricotta cheese.
Us? we’re fans of the veggie Arrabiatta Fusilli, the seafood Gameretti e Spinaci Spaghetti, and the Cognac Tagliatelle, with chicken and bacon (although Dr Schenker would probably raise an eyebrow at the cream).
