JAMES MARTIN - Five-course tasting menu for £30 from 2 January 

That means each tasting course at the celeb chef’s restaurant costs just £6. Expect the likes of wagyu ox cheek, celeriac, aubergine, caramelised onion and pea shoots. Add matching wines to the winter-themed gastravaganza for just £17.50 extra. Available weekdays, quote ‘tasting menu’ when booking. T&Cs apply.

GRAFENE - Afternoon tea for £14.50

They’re now well known for fine dining at a reasonable price, and Grafene’s afternoon tea is no exception: various finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and strawberry conserve, pumpkin and cranberry loaf, pain aux raisin, macarons and chocolate ganache - all for under £15. There are champagne and prosecco options too. Cheers.

Tuck into one-course lunch for £7, or get two courses for £12, with options spanning steak to sea bass and lobster ravioli (available 12-3pm daily). Off to the theatre? You can out the pennies and the calories with the Chop Houses’ timely new ‘Chop it Out’ menu: with flavourful menu that are low in fat and carbs, yet high in protein and taste. Every dish contains at least 80g of vegetables, from  the oven-baked salmon to the poached chicken with winter crunch salad, and desserts don’t disappoint either: think chocolate and avocado mousse with candied chestnuts… Available at Sam’sTom’s and Albert’s weekdays 12-3pm, Mon-Thurs 5.30-7.30pm and all day Sundays.
