IT’S BEEN almost exactly a year since Confidential revealed easyHotel’s acquisition of Bradley House (aka The Flatiron Building) on the corner of Dale Street and Newton Street in the Northern Quarter.

It’s a fantastic use for a building that has gone through a difficult period in recent years

Now comes word that the super-budget hotel group, founded by EasyJet tycoon Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, will begin work to convert the Grade II-listed former shipping warehouse and hat factory into a 115-bed hotel – with rooms starting from £25 per night - later this month.

The scheme designed by Buttress Architects and brought forward by property firm Styles & Wood is conceived as a series of rooms ‘stored’ within the building – a nod to the building’s industrial heritage.

The building will be restored with new windows to the ground and lower ground floors, reinstating the original facades. The original goods entrance on Dale Street will become the main entrance to the building, leading into a compact reception space.

Gavin Sorby, Managing Director of Buttress Architects, says: “It’s a fantastic use for a building that has gone through a difficult period in recent years, and a great location for the hotel.

“The wider advantage of easyHotel is the contribution it will make to the rejuvenation of this part of Manchester. The absence of front of house facilities within the hotel creates a ready market for nearby businesses to service.”

easyHotel currently operate ten UK hotels; eight in London and one in Liverpool, Edinburgh and Glasgow; alongside eleven international hotels in cities such as Berlin, Amsterdam, Prague and Dubai.
