The Director’s Box will open early-Feb following a swift makeover

SO the Beef & Pudding has finally spoiled, just over two months after Confidential revealed that the restaurant’s owners had gone into administration owing creditors more than £4 million (read here).

But where there is death, there is often life (particularly amongst the current scramble for empty food & booze units in Manchester city centre), and Confidential already has word of new plans for the site at the corner of Fountain Street and Nicholas Street.

On Monday 16 January the keys will be handed over to Rochelle Stringer, thirteen years landlady of The Vine Inn pub just around the corner on Kennedy Street, who will team up with The Vine’s owners, Enterprise Inns, to bring Manchester a brand new sports bar called The Director’s Box.

“We want this to be a high-end sports bar,” says Stringer, “not just about showing the football on big match days, but also showing sports such as golf, cricket and Formula One seven days a week.

“We’ll also have a membership option allowing you to book private booths for the sport of your choice – we can show up to four different sports at once.”

Stringer explains that given the venue is already in pretty good nick, they should be able to turn the place over in under two weeks, with eyes on an early-February opening.

“We’ve also managed to secure the best equipment in the city,” says Stringer, “with all screens boasting state-of-the-art 4k technology.”

Stringers says that although the Director’s Box will offer the usual array of mainstream lagers and American half-time-happy bar snacks, the venue will also offer a number of real ales and Belgian beers, with plans for ‘better meals’ once they’ve settled in... with a name like that, perhaps prawn sandwiches might be apt.

The Director’s Box will open seven days a week from the second week in February.
