DEFIANCE is a recently released third person shooter set on a post apocalyptic world; it is a Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game that requires the player to be always connected to the internet.
It is based on the television show Defiance which is on the SYFY channel in the UK on Tuesdays.
Single player element of the game is clever as it utilises online and solo playing and brings them together by giving you the freedom to lone wolf the campaign and challenge yourself.
The MMO element to the game puts you in situations where you will often be in areas with other player controlled characters. We are looking at thousands of players questing in player vs environment style combat.
There are also player vs player game modes such as Team Deathmatch which is your basic 6v6 battle on a limited battlefield.
Thankfully the game play is very fluent; there are not many delays between the action of the player and the action on the game. Also another element not often seen in MMOs is that you actually have to aim your attacks - more commonly the game makes you lock your player onto the targeted enemy.

In several missions I have found myself partnering up with someone else who was doing the same mission which made fighting much easier as we could heal each other during combat.
Most people who are familiar with MMOs know that at the start of the game you will be able to customize your character however you want. Defiance’s character creation does not go as in depth as say The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim by Bethesda Game Studios but it does give you enough options to make your character unique.
Defiance provides a very enjoyable experience and manufacturer Trion, has done an excellent job of bringing MMO aspects into console gaming.
