As usual, The Pen And Pencil is the place to be with unmissable events every week. Add that to all the offers, music and tasty food and booze – hey presto, it’s your new home for August.
August’s headline acts, so to speak, are the ones you need to pop in your social schedule right away.
First up, on Friday 17 August, is the ever-popular monthly Hip Hop Takeover with Yung Jozy.
You’ve probably already got Saturday 18 August in your diary because Liam Gallagher is playing in Manchester but did you know The Pen And Pencil are teaming up with XS Manchester to hold a pre-show party with special deals for those of you who’ve managed to get your sticky mitts on a ticket.
All you have to do is flash your pass and you’ll spend less cash. In other words, 25% off food and spirits and mixer deals – only £3. Plus, there’ll be an exclusive DJ set from Clint Boon.
Bank Holidays are always pretty special at The Pen And Pencil and this one promises to be no exception. Sunday 26 August sees them take that ‘no work on Monday’ feeling and run with it. There’ll be a hip-hop-fuelled extravaganza with Gareth Brooks on the decks from 7pm – 1am.
Friday 31 August sees a retro special with a celebration of the soundtrack to Vice City. Unquestionably, the PlayStation 2 game with the coolest tunes, DJ Duncan Wallis will have you warbling along to Toto, Human League, Sister Sledge et al.

Every Friday and Saturday, The Pen And Pencil have some of the city’s finest DJs providing the soundtrack to your weekend mischief.
And for midweek fun and games, there’s live music every Wednesday. Relax and enjoy the evening with two dishes and a bottle of house wine for £30 from 6pm with the gigs beginning at 7pm. Once a month, The Pen and Pencil holds Gin & Jazz with Yemi where you can enjoy £4 Sipsmith Gin & Tonics and Bourbon & Blues with Walklate and Lawley where £4 Bulleit Bourbon and mixers are available all night.
