POPULAR Spinningfields bar and restaurant, The Lawn Club, is to close at the end of August following two successful years on Hardman Square.

We’ve got some exciting projects in the pipeline for the future

The temporary structure (which began life as In Bloom in the summer of 2013, later changing its name to Hibernate) will now make way for ‘The Field’ – a ‘cutting edge' new green space and four-storey pavilion of bars and restaurants designed to complement the nineteen-storey No.1 Spinningfields tower.

Confidential understands the accursed Club House/Haig Club/Long Bar is also for the chop.

James Wrigley, owner Lawn Club operators, Keep Left, said: “From owning a mobile bar company in 2012 and operating a bar in a shipping container, Michael Ingall offered us the opportunity to grow our business with Allied London and the rest as they say is history.

“Each year we’ve grown in size and revenue to become a well-established bar and restaurant operator. We love Spinningfields and have seen a loyal customer base grow with us throughout the years and will be sad to say goodbye for now.

“We’ve worked in partnership with Allied London throughout, with all ventures being joint ventures, and have built a strong business model for success together. We can’t underestimate the support we’ve received from Allied London. Mike is a visionary and a source of inspiration for me personally.

“We’ve got some exciting projects in the pipeline for the future, so watch this space to see what we’ve got coming your way next.”

Michaell Ingall, Allied London’s Chief Executive commented: “The Lawn Club has been the perfect prequel to our plans for the next phase of Hardman Square. The overwhelming success this area enjoyed as temporary public realm with The Lawn Club seemed to add more value to the place than any building could ever do. It has ensured the opportunity to keep it free for people to enjoy and continue something exceptional and striking.

“The Field will be a space with a personality. A place of this calibre was always envisioned as part of the original Spinningfields masterplan and will become a home from home for resident workers at Spinningfields, especially those based at No.1 Spinningfields, who will have this iconic new structure on their doorstep.”

The Lawn Club is the latest in a string of recent closures for the city, which has seen the likes of Quill, Splendid Kitchen, Grinch and Urban Cookhouse all call it a day within the six weeks - read about it here.

Elsewhere, the future of the nearby Oast House remains uncertain after Ingall unveiled plans for 'The Skirt' during MIPIM earlier this year.

The Lawn Club will close at the end of August.
