Where is it?

You can find this emporium of bangs, booms and shimmering sparkly fun at 350 Barlow Moor Road, Chorlton, M21 8AZ. You can get in touch on 0161 881 3990 or tweet @Chorlfireworks.

The shelves are packed with a vast array of different types of fireworks, from massive explosions which provide the loudest legal blast available to something suitable for someone with a backyard the size of a postage stamp.

History

Chorlton Fireworks has been open as an all year round firework store for two years but Sajid Munir, who runs the business, has over seven years experience of selling fireworks. As a child with a birthday on November 9, he always celebrated with a big bonfire party complete with fireworks and sparklers. After being injured in a car accident, Saj decided to carve out another career, and remembered the fantastic firework parties of his youth and Chorlton Fireworks was born.

What does it sell?

It’s called Chorlton Fireworks. What do you think it sells?

However, to say it sells fireworks doesn’t really do the scale of the operation justice. The shelves are packed with a vast array of different types of fireworks, from massive explosions which provide the loudest legal blast available to something suitable for someone with a backyard the size of a postage stamp.

Prices start at just 50p for diddy little sparklers and the cheapest fireworks are the 9-shot barrages at just £4. They may be cheap but they still pack a punch as Saj warns me: “Even though they’re only four quid, they still need to be secured because they’re very powerful. They’ve got the same kind of powder as some of the bigger boys.”

If you want a Guy Fawkes’ Night to remember, you could splash out on the Galactic Finale which, at £150, is the most expensive firework in stock but it’s still below the RRP of £175 and Confidential readers can buy it for only £125 by clicking here. They also have a good choice of selection boxes starting at £10.

Sajid’s personal favourite is the El Ninjo: “I love this one because it’s great value for money. It’s a multishot cake with crackles, bangs and colour effects. On top of that, it fans out rather than just shooting straight into the air.”

Other contenders for Sajid Munir’s firework crown are Total FX’s Tortured Tempest and Thunder Strike. The Tortured Tempest gets his endorsement because of the unusual colours with purples and blues rather than just the usual suspects of reds, golds and silvers. He also likes the way it seems to hang in the sky before disappearing. The Thunder Strike is what to go for if turning the amp to 11 isn’t quite enough for you. As well as having big colourful bursts, the Thunder Strike is at the loudest firework available legally.

Safety tips from Saj

 - Keep fireworks in a closed box and only take one out at a time, replacing the lid as you do so.

 - Follow the instructions on each firework carefully, making sure you read them by torchlight rather than using a naked flame.

 - Light fireworks using your outstretched arm so your face is not directly above the firework.

 - Stand well back.

- Never return to a firework once it has been lit, even if it doesn’t go off – it might explode in your face.

- Keep pets indoors.

Why go there?

Listening to Saj, it’s obvious he is a man who is passionate about his products. He knows these fireworks inside out and he makes sure that it’s only quality fireworks from the leading UK suppliers so no damp squibs here. In fact everything sold in the shop has already been tested out by Saj and his team to make sure they meet his exacting standards.

Rocket Man

Remember, remember the fifth of November but don’t forget about the rest of the year as well. Chorlton Fireworks is also one of the only all year round firework shops in Manchester. Fireworks are popular for corporate events, birthday parties and anniversaries but away from November, it’s weddings which create the biggest demand for fireworks. Ice Fountains, Confetti Cannons and Gender Reveal Fireworks are products that are popular all year round in the UK.

Chorlton Fireworks is popular with local people but people come from as far afield as Nelson, Blackburn and Bury and that must be a good sign.
