BLACK DOG BALLROOM is set to host the UK launch of the lunchtime dance phenomenon – Lunch Beat.
Over 1000 people have already signed up to the event as Manchester, always the city of creative innovation, embraces the Lunch Beat ethos.
The first rule of lunch beat is: If it’s your first lunch at Lunch Beat, you have to dance
15 cities will stream the events live from their locations as organisers aim to create a simultaneous dance floor across the world – unifying dancers in real time.
The event will take place at Black Dog Ballroom, corner Tib Street and Church Street, between 1pm and 2pm on Thursday 31 May.
Dancers have the opportunity to enjoy the music played by Lunch Beat MCR organiser and DJ - Marvin Speakman. An example of the music Marvin will playing can be found here.
Tickets are available for £8 and include a light, healthy lunch, and free bottled water throughout.
The simultaneous events will also be digitally live streamed with Bambuser for anyone to watch online.
From it’s humble beginnings in 2010, with fourteen people dancing in a car park in central Sweden, the Lunch Beat phenomenon has now spread on a global scale, and has been covered in world and national press – even getting a mention on Oprah Winfrey’s blog.
Of course, this is a case of what goes around comes around.
Confidential knows old timers in Manchester who met and married following lunchtime dance sessions made famous by the late Jimmy Savile in the Plaza club. We'll be writing about this in June. It's lovely to see afternoon danceland stepping out once more.
Tickets for the event are on sale via the website, where you can find all the background information on the Lunch Beat world.
To give you a better idea of what to expect from this unique, co-creative lunch experience, here’s the Lunch Beat Manifesto.

3rd rule: If you are getting too tired to actually dance at Lunch Beat, please have your lunch at some other place.
