The afternoon or early evening classes are well timed as a prequel to a night out. (Because nobody's going straight home afterwards when they've got two cocktail's worth of premium liquor racing round their blood stream.) Abode is in a prime location for heading into the Northern Quarter after the class but you'll be hard-pressed to find a better-looking venue than its champagne bar. This is one of the city's top hotel bars – a sophisticated meeting spot you can party in until 2am on weekends.
But let's rewind to the masterclass. This isn't a formal, strictly formatted affair. It's a relaxed experience designed to suit your group – you tell the mixologist what type of drinks you like (strong ones, please) then he'll take you through how to make them like a true pro, from scratch.
And of course, after you've made it, you drink it. So careful with that free-pouring...
It's a nifty skill to have – the ability to mix a fine drink – it'll see you through good times and bad. And the mixologists here are a charismatic bunch. Expect to be entertained and enlightened (as well as mildly inebriated).
The two-hour (ish) masterclass includes two premium cocktails, nibbles, and tuition and costs £25 per person. It's available for groups of between four and twelve people.
