COME CHRISTMAS, you can usually follow a glitter trail to all the festive parties and sparkle-coated partygoers. After all, t'is the season to dress yourself up like a Christmas tree bauble - from that killer festive sequinned dress to your glitter-topped eyelids.
"Don't be afraid of glitter, it can be simple to use and you don't have to resemble a seven-year-old kid's Christmas painting."
It goes without saying that, for us girls, glitter, metallic and sparkly make-up will remain as much a part of Christmas party preparation as mince pies and tinsel.
And the catwalks are embracing all that glitters. Both metallic eyes and shimmery lips were present on the Autumn/Winter catwalks, with designers Rodarte, Badgely Mischka and Issey Miyake all championing the glitter, silver and gold Christmas colour palettes.
Rodarte teamed up with Nars to create metallic lips for AW/14
To give you some inspiration, our resident professional make-up artist Frankie Noone has put together four sparkly MAC looks for you to try out at your upcoming Christmas parties.
Frankie says: "Don't be afraid of glitter, it can be simple to use and you don't have to resemble seven year-olds kids Christmas painting. Play around by adding colour to your usual smokey eye look."
LOOK 1: THE CLASSIC 'BLACK AND GOLD'
Frankie: "Add a bit of sparkle to a smokey eye. You're not really going to get better than the MAC Reflects Glitters- they twinkle with every blink. Here I used the MAC Reflects Pearl and the copper glitter out of this year's MAC Christmas sets."
LOOK 2: UNDERSTATED SILVER METALLICS
F: "This look is really wearable - especially for those who prefer not to go OTT. Do your fave smokey eye and then just whack a bit of glitter on to the eyelid. This is MAC Reflects Pearl (again)."
LOOK 3: THE LIP AND EYE BOLD COLOUR COMBO
F: "Green glitter? Why not. This is MAC 3D Gold Glitter. Top tip, with a chunkier glitter, add a very thin layer of eyelash glue and stick the glitter on top. The glue stops the glitter from falling on to your face. Add a berry lip colour and you're on to a winner."
LOOK 4: PURPLE OMBRÉ
F: "Dare to be different. My fave glitter in MAC Reflects Transparent Pink, pressed in the middle of a purple smokey eye. I went for a matching pink-purple ombré lip for impact."
