The fair’s tenth edition will bring works by a multitude of famous artists to Manchester from 27-29 October

Rare pieces from the likes of Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Banksy and LS Lowry will feature alongside a selection of up-and-coming contemporary artists at this year's Buy Art Fair at Manchester Central, 27-29 October.

The tenth edition of Buy Art Fair, the largest art fair in the north of England, will bring works by a multitude of famous artists to Manchester at the end of the month. To celebrate this milestone, the organisers have released a list of the top ten biggest names being sold at this year’s fair, along with five artists who have done something special this year.

Thom Hetherington, CEO of Buy Art Fair and The Manchester Contemporary, said: “We are all incredibly proud of how Buy Art Fair has grown over the last ten years. We’ve developed a new generation of collectors in the North who appreciate the chance to own a big name, whilst also providing a platform for up-and-coming talent.”

Since its launch in 2008, Buy Art Fair, featuring The Manchester Contemporary has sold an astonishing £3 million worth of art and has established itself as one of the top art events in the country at which to purchase sought-after works. This year the event is anticipated to attract a record 7,000 people over its three days, with pieces available from £50 to £5,000+ including paintings, photography, sculpture and prints.

Numerous internationally-renowned artists will have their work on display and available for purchase.

Damien Hirst’s silkscreen print with diamond dust, Psalm: Domini Est Terra, is exhibited by Cornish-based The Drang Gallery. Meanwhile, No Ball Games by Banksy is brought to the Fair by Mancunian exhibitor Papa’s Print Shop, and Tracey Emin’s works So I Left You and With Or Without You are offered for purchase by the Royal Academy of Arts.

Leon Martyn is exhibiting at Buy Art Fair for the first time, having relocated to Manchester with two booths showing a variety of artists selling prints and originals. He said “I am excited to bring a number of renowned contemporary artists to the Buy Art Fair including Ben Eine, Word To Mother and Pryce Lee. They will sit alongside works by established household names such as L. S. Lowry, Anthony Gormley and Barbara Hepworth.”

The ten big names on sale at Buy Art Fair are Damien Hirst, L S Lowry, Tracey Emin, Barbara Hepworth, Banksy, Anthony Gormley, Peter Blake, Yoko Ono, Peter Blake, David Shrigley and Cornelia Parker.

Buy Art Fair also has a well-established reputation for exhibiting works by exciting up-and-coming artists: highlights this year include: Katie Edwards, winner of The Lawrence Printmaking Prize in 2017; Ben Eine, 10% of whose limited edition print Manchester will be donated to The Mustard Tree charity; Rosey Prince, selected for the 2017 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition; Norman Ackroyd RA, whose work can be seen at the Zillah Bell Gallery; and Ian Rayer Smith, winner of It’s Call Art Prize 2017.

Every year since 2008 Buy Art Fair and The Manchester Contemporary have presented thousands of original contemporary works from 100 exhibiting UK and international galleries and artists. In total more than 600 artists are being exhibited at the fair and a good range of work is available to preview on the websites. 

The fair opens with a VIP Preview at 5pm on Friday 27 October, while public days take place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 October, 10am-6pm and 10am-5pm respectively.
