All couples can now officially tie the knot at multiple spaces across the famed emporium
On the hunt for the ultimate Mancunian wedding venue? Well, you just might be in luck.
Born in 1982, Afflecks, the totemic Manchester building brimming with alternative independent retailers, has announced that it will be able to host wedding ceremonies moving forward.
The world-famous shopping emporium has been awarded its matrimonial licence just in time to celebrate Manchester Pride Festival, tying in with this year’s theme ‘Queerly Beloved’ which commemorates 10 years of marriage equality in the UK.
Mancunian couples and those from all around the world who adore Afflecks and what it stands for will be able to say “I do” amongst vinyls and vintage knick-knacks in some of the venue's most recognisable spots.
The new wedding licence will allow Afflecks to host small, intimate and inclusive wedding ceremonies for couples who are looking for a unique and quirky wedding at somewhere that holds a special place in their hearts.
Initially, there will be five spaces available for weddings throughout the building. Each space can host up to 30 guests at these intimate ceremonies and can be dressed and adapted to suit each to-be-wed couple’s desires.
So, whether you’re into Japanese culture and fancy getting hitched in the Animaid Cafe, you’re a music-mad couple that wants to share your vows in front of the band poster wall, or you’re long-term lovers who have fond memories of spending weekends in the Afflecks cafe, there’s a space to suit everyone with an adoration for this cultural institution.
Those looking for last-minute details for the perfect wedding will find alternative essentials all under one roof with vintage wedding outfits at one of the many pre-loved fashion traders including Milner & Son, American Graffiti and Beg Steal and Borrow. There’s also biodegradable confetti and flowers available at Jamie’s Jungle, as well as unique jewellery and adornments from Abacus and Sour Cherry. You can even get your beau’s initials tattooed at The Studio. Once you’re officially wed, you can have a pizza party reception at Crazy Pedro’s or NQ64 next door.
AJ Martyn, General Manager at Afflecks said: “Afflecks has always been a place that embodies love in all its forms, creative freedom and equality - as well as a welcoming, safe space for all.
“The LGBTQ+ community has forever been at the heart of our emporium and we're excited to celebrate this year's Manchester Pride theme and 10 years of marriage equality by opening our doors to ALL couples who may be looking for an inclusive, creative, and unique space in which to say 'I Do’.
“We've always believed that love is love and we can't wait to welcome couples to our independent emporium and help them create an alternative day of their dreams at Afflecks.''
Wedding bookings and enquiries can be made through the Afflecks website and by arrangement with Manchester registry office. Weddings at Afflecks will commence Summer 2024.
