ALEXANDRA PARK has received £2.2 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of their Parks for People programme and funding from national sports organisations, to help restore the park to its former Victorian glory. The total investment figure in the park will be £5m with sums of money from Manchester City Council and the Lawn Tennis Association.
Footpaths and the oval lawns in the park will be reinstated where the original designs have been lost and historic features, such as the water fountain and flagstaff, will be restored.
Now plans have been drawn up on how to spend the money. These will be available to view at the Children’s Centre in the middle of Alexandra Park from 11am until 4pm this Saturday. Members of the design team will be on hand to answer any questions from the public.

Footpaths and the oval lawns in the park will be reinstated where the original designs have been lost and historic features, such as the water fountain and flagstaff, will be restored.
The regeneration of the park will also give the local community the opportunity to become more involved, giving them the chance to learn more about its heritage and how they can help look after the park.
Councillor Rosa Battle, Manchester City Council executive member for culture and leisure, said: "The open day is a fantastic chance for people to see the exciting work that will transform Alexandra Park. Alexandra Park has a rich heritage, reaching back over 140 years, and I’m sure this new development will allow it to be enjoyed for generations to come.”
The Alexandra Park open day takes place on Saturday 1 December, from 11am-4pm.
