What we say:
Right from the very first racy number (Welcome To The Moulin Rouge!), it was clear that this well-versed cast didn’t come to play around - they meant seriously saucy business.
This modern musical adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film tells the tale of Christian (played by Josh Rose this evening), a young American who travelled to Paris to find himself and ended up falling head over heels in love with gorgeous burlesque performer Satine (Verity Thompson) instead.
Like a sexy Romeo & Juliet (sort-of), the pair are forced to keep their love under wraps, sneaking encapsulating, intimate moments in between those of tragedy and despair. All of which is accompanied by rousing renditions of modern hits and a larger-than-life production, complete with all the bells, whistles, corsets, glitz and glamour you could hope for.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical is an outstanding display of modern theatre that I’m still buzzing from the morning after watching. Bravo to all involved.
