THIS Saturday (22 September) Band on the Wall welcomes the man commonly credited as the father of UK neo soul.

Touring in anticipation of his seventh studio album, The Man, Omar has been one of the major voices on international soul scene for over two decades. With six albums to his name, he's amassed over half a million record sales along the way.

His much-loved hit 'There's Nothing Like This' announced the arrival of a major new talent when it smashed its way through the UK singles chart back in 1991. Encapsulating what was to become the new sub-genre of soul, his fresh sound combined Latin, funk, reggae, soul, jazz and orchestral arrangements and established him as a major player on the neo soul scene.

Always pushing the boundaries of soul music, over the years he's worked with artists as diverse as Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Kele Le Roc, Angie Stone and Common.

His recent album Sing (If You Want It) is considered a modern soul classic. In 2006, the Urban Music Awards presented Omar with the Best Neo Soul Act and Outstanding Achievement Awards. In 2011 he was nominated as Best UK R&B/Soul Act at the MOBOs and this year he received an MBE for his outstanding services to music.

Support at the concert is from the wonderful voice and fresh soul sound of Thabo and the Real Deal. The live music will be followed by Soul Party with DJ Chris Jam until late.

The show starts at 8.30pm on Saturday 22 September. Band on the Wall's Picturehouse cafe bar opens earlier for home-made food and drinks.

Tickets are £15 in advance. Buy them here.

The winner will be picked on Friday 21 September 2012.
