THE great Spanish takeover of Manchester's restaurant scene continues apace – and nobody is complaining when it brings gems like this to the city centre. La Bandera is an independent restaurant with owners who originate from the Canary Islands. With its long coastline, crystal waters, and fertile farmland, these islands have an enviable cuisine well worth experiencing.
In this competition you can win the La Bandera Tasting Menu – a fantastic introduction to what this restaurant offers. The ten-course menu changes daily but you're guaranteed an array of beautifully presented, traditional dishes, featuring plenty of fresh produce.
When we sampled it, the line-up included stunning dishes such as Squid Ink Croquettas, Galician Octopus, and Hake served on velvety green peas and crispy leeks. Other courses included Iberian Pig Cheeks glazed with Pedro Ximenez sauce, honeyed chicken strips on a bed of roast Mediterranean vegetables, and a delightful Passion Fruit and White Chocolate infused custard with fresh summer berries.
Each course is served with a glass of wine or cocktail, selected to complement the flavours. With the wines, the Tasting Menu is £70pp or £45pp without. La Bandera is at 2 Ridgefield (off King Street).
