The queens, the queers and the quirks of Manchester's LGBTQ+ weekend

Manchester Pride made its vibrant return in 2021 for the first time since 2019 following the pandemic year of the cancellation in 2020. This year was a little different though, with the main parade (arguably Pride's most important component) cancelled due to concerns about meeting guidelines for safety. However, a large scale music event did take place at First Street this year with performers including YUNGBLUD, Zara Larsson and Gabrielle. 

There was also a protest against controversies surrounding Pride this year.

But despite all that, people descended in their rainbow feather boa-ed droves on Canal Street, First Street and well, basically the whole city bringing their human rainbow after the torrential downpour of the past 18 months. The party vibes were palpable and you couldn't help but smile.
