GREENING the Northern Quarter is garden-inspired café-bar-restaurant Alvarium, which has just welcomed new head chef Adam Leavy into the fold.
A fan of the humble vegetable, Adam has been busy creating a menu to big up the seasonal yet affordable fine-dining experience. Vibrant vegetarian and vegan small plates and sides take centre stage, with the chance for diners to try out lots of little dishes packed full of big flavours.
Adam is a MasterChef semi-finalist, no less, and he is renowned for his imaginative plant-based creations. His brand-new menu makes the most of fresh fruit, fresh veg and fresh flavours – from a lemongrass curry with black-eyed peas and squash to the smoky Spanish dish of grilled vegetables known as Escalivada, featuring fried tomato, courgette and the ras el hanout spice mix. There’s a zingy Jack à l’orange, fennel and shitake dish and a sweet potato bhaji, sweetcorn, tomato, biriyani plate. There’s also an Alvarium salad, with beetroot, heritage tomato, pistachio and black olive, plus sticky tamarind Bombay potatoes and polenta and oregano fries.
He can’t wait for you to give the new menu a go – and we’re excited too, especially as we have dinner for two up for grabs. If you’re lucky, you might even get to meet the man of the moment…
