EVERYONE looks better with a cocktail in their hand. Especially when they're as beautifully crafted as the ones in The Lounge at WOOD Manchester.

Masterchef winner Simon Wood's restaurant is getting lots of favourable attention for its pure, unpretentious take on fine-dining. The Lounge, has the potential to become a destination in its own right.

It serves expertly turned-out classics such as the Negroni and the French 75. And they understand that it's not how many ingredients, but the quality of them that defines a good drink: two or three elements at the most make these cocktails shine.

There's also a signature menu for those in an adventurous mood. Names such as Hybrid Theory (JJ Whitley Rhubarb vodka, cloudy apple, lemon) and Appetite (El Jimador, chilli, mango) hint at Simon Wood's penchant for American rock music. We don't know whether his influence extends to the bar's playlist, but we certainly hope so.

And if you can stand to spend some of your winnings on food, why not pair your cocktails with gourmet bar snacks? Their nocellara olives over ice make for a sophisticated bite. Or go for something more substantial: Josper smoked gnocci, Josper spiced wings, and pork belly bites are amongst your options.
