IT WOULD appear that wherever there’s blame there’s also a fine.
"Illegal posters like this are not just unsightly for residents, they cost time and money to remove and often generate litter."
Mr Compensator, an Ancoats-based compensation company, has been fined over £9,000 for illegal advertising by Manchester Magistrates’ Court. £8,000 for flyposting with an additional £1,029 for costs, complete with a £100 victims of crime surcharge.
There was a £1000 fine imposed for each poster that council officers had to remove from lampposts last December. They were found in Withington, Fallowfield, Levenshulme, Rusholme, Chorlton and Longsight.
Mr Compensator's offending posters
The council hopes that this ruling will encourage companies to think again before breaching legislation.
Cllr Bernard Priest, Manchester City Council’s deputy leader, said: "Illegal posters like this are not just unsightly for residents, they cost time and money to remove and often generate litter.
"The size of this fine demonstrates that both ourselves and the courts take this offence very seriously and companies who think they can treat the city as their free advertising hoarding should think again."
