IN the days leading up to the Manchester leg of Comic Con 2016, it became clear that an increasing number of us are now more than willing to release our inner geek.
Pokemon (a word we hadn't heard much of since the band Steps were still big) has returned furiously to the Comic Con lexicon, thanks to the phenomenon of Pokemon Go - a smartphone app that has encouraged tens of million across the globe to get up off their bottoms and chase fantastical little monsters around their towns and cities, under buses and into landfill sites.
So it was that over 100 Pokemon characters - enlivened by this new societal acceptance - turned out at Nerd-vana centred around Manchester Central this weekend, joined by an electic bunch from across the comic and sci-fi spectrum, including Jedis, Jokers, Dr Who, Disney princesses, Transformers and a good few what-the-hell-is-that-ers. There was even a Frank Sidebottom. Two actually. How very Manc.
