NEW BAR, Wählbar, in Fallowfield has big plans.

Next week, on Wednesday 9 May, the people behind The Gas Lamp, on Bridge Street in the city centre, will be opening a sister venue, Wählbar.

This will be situated in Fallowfield and hopes to 'cater for students, south Manchester residents and those brave enough to take the 42/43 bus'.

It will have a café bar that aims to 'deliver quality, affordable, home cooked food'.

There'll also be a club room and gig space downstairs.

The same elements that make up the success of The Gas Lamp will be present with an emphasis on a distinctive range of ales, world beers, wines and spirits.

In the fullness of time Wählbar intends to become a brew pub, supplying beers largely for itself and The Gas Lamp.

In the meantime Brightside Brewery in Bury have crafted two beers that will be exclusively available at both sites. 'Spinning Top' is a tropical pale ale and 'Rocking Horse' is a malty bitter.

The name by the way is German and means 'eligable' or 'eminently selectable'.

Wählbar will be at 310 Wilmslow Road, Fallowfield, Manchester M14 6XQ
