MANCHESTER is on a coffee high and isn’t ready to come down.
So who’s the best of the bunch? Who’s bossing the bean? Who’s ruling the roast?
Independent coffee shops, whether hip urban-loft style workspaces or quaint tea shops with twee miniature hourglasses have been multiplying feverishly over the past few years, and the city has welcomed the new wave of bean roasters and brew makers with open arms.
What’s more, they’re taking it to the big boys with more style, better coffee and pointier moustaches.
Though with escalating competition, coffee entrepreneurs are getting smart and getting creative; we’ve seen pay-per-minute coffee-shops, kindercafes, cycle-cafes, coffee in sheds, boozy coffee shops and even coffee with sodding cats.
So who’s the best of the bunch? Who’s bossing the bean? Who’s ruling the roast?
Over the coming weeks we'll be hosting a series of Twitter vote-offs pitting the city's most popular coffee (and sometimes tea) shops against one another – as we recently did it with Italians and Boozers.
Every day we'll post two heats with three coffee shops going up against one another, you pick your favourite, the winner moves on to the next round until we arrive at YOUR favourite of the lot. The winner will get a nice, big slap on the back and a lovely shiny award to stick on top of the grinder.
So get involved via our Twitter and get behind your favourite coffee shop... and be quick as each poll doesn't last long.
