And they've got a new botanical cocktail bar
MODERN vegetarian restaurant 1847 has reopened in new, bigger premises on Chapel Walks, off Cross Street. And good news for those who like to drink clean as well as eat clean: the new venue includes a botanical bar, named Dandelion, that serves only vegetarian and vegan drinks.

Highlights include the 1847 Old Fashioned (triple distilled whiskey, stirred with a dehydrated apricot with a dash of chocolate bitters) and Garden of Eden (English gin, mixed with elderflower and mint, topped off with chilled Prosecco and a fresh mint sprig).
Dandelion also offers an extensive range of local, organic ales and carefully-selected wines. A menu of gourmet bar snacks (all veggie or vegan, of course) will be available soon.
Next door in the restaurant, the 1847 concept stays the same. Named after the year the Vegetarian Society was formed in Manchester, it has a completely meat-free menu, with roughly half the dishes catering to vegans. Organic and gluten-free dishes are also available.
Typical mains include Harissa battered halloumi with pea, malt salt, lemon air, and triple cooked chips, and Beetroot puff pastry stack with beet jus, chard fennel, date and red vein sorrel.
The new premises, opposite Chaophraya, are a lot easier to find than their previous home which was off Mosley Street. The space is much bigger too, with room for 60 covers in the restaurant. An additional room for private dining of up to 35 people will open later this year.
1847 traded well for six years on Mosley Street, building up a clientele that included as many meat-eaters as vegetarians and vegans. The food was impressive but the tumbleweed location held it back. Here's hoping its new home on Chapel Walks will bring this fine independent back to the fore.
