Afternoon tea just got an overhaul at The Lowry’s River Restaurant

PARTIAL to an afternoon tea, and an award-winning one to boot? It’s a staple at riverside hotel The Lowry, and, right now, not only have they upgraded the drinks offer and updated the list of finger-licking dainties, they’ve also introduced an unmissable offer for February.

We’ll tell you about that in a mo; just hear us out on the food and beverages, which are tasty and plentiful. Let’s start with the savouries… Sandwiches first, and we have roast beef with Dijon mayonnaise and red onion; an Italian-inspired nibble of rosemary focaccia with heritage tomato, mozzarella and pesto, and smoked trout mousse with lemon and dill cream on a brown bloomer. An all-butter puff pastry sage and apple sausage roll rounds things off in the savoury department.

Still got space? Well, afternoon tea wouldn’t be British Tea Council-approved afternoon tea without freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and preserves, now, would it?

On the cake front, go fruity with the Tequila Sunrise blood orange gateau, the toffee apple with caramelised puff pastry and vanilla cream, and the lemon tart with Italian meringue and candied lime, then go nuts with the mousse: chocolate, cappuccino and hazelnuts. Still got space? Well, afternoon tea wouldn’t be British Tea Council-approved afternoon tea without freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and preserves, now, would it?

Nor would it be afternoon tea without tea, and there’s quite a selection, from loose leaf chamomile to premium Pai-Mu-Tan White Tea. Tea Of The Month, meanwhile, is the naturally sweet Manchester Bee Honey Black Tea.
