Manchester will welcome in 2015's Year of the Ram with one of the city's biggest and most colourful Chinese New Year celebrations ever with over 100,000 people expected. You may have already spotted the thousands of red lanterns adorning the city streets in preparation for the big celebration; the weekend's festivities will include a light shows, a Chinese street food market, music, film, martial arts and the increasingly popular Dragon Parade and fireworks finale - see here for more details

Cornerhouse is coming to an end; full stop. Yet while a full stop denotes the end of a sentence, not necessarily the end of a conversation, and this conversation is far from over as the theatre begins it transition to HOME. BETH ORTON: ARTISTIC DIRECTOR SERIES | Band On The Wall | Fri 20 Feb

BRIT award and Mercury prize-winner, Beth Orton, is to lead the Wall of Sounds Artistic Directors Series, and will collaborate on new material with thirteen specially selected up-and-coming female musicians during a week-long residency at Band on the Wall. On 20 February, Beth and the resident participants will perform the fruits of the week’s work live at a special finale event - more here

RIOT JAZZ PRESENTS GEORGE THE POET | Antwerp Mansion | Fri 20 Feb

The incredible wordsmith comes to Manchester for the first time on his first national tour with his live band. George The Poet is one of the most unique new artists to emerge in the UK in recent years. He has regularly appeared on the BBC, Channel 4 and Sky TV, blending poetry, rap and social commentary to hypnotic effect - over four million people have watched him on YouTube. The poet will be performing in the direlict Rusholme mansion with the talented house band, Riot Jazz, for a stunning one off performance - details here
