CASTLEFIELD FOOD FESTIVAL | Castlefield Bowl | Fri 15 - Sun 17 May
This weekend marks the first ever Castlefield Food Festival at the Castlefield Bowl. Thousands are expected to attend the festival which will feature: a world and farmers' market, a chef's demo kitchen, live music and street food stalls. Local chef and 'Champion of the North' Robert Owen Brown and Kate Goodman from BBC's Food & Drink show will take to the demo kitchen, while Dukes 92, Dimitris and Veeno will host pop-up restaurants around the Bowl.

Multi-platinum selling, BRIT award-winner Gabrielle will be performing an acoustic set live at The Milton Club for its upcoming Soul Purpose event. Milton resident DJ Justin Fry will be warming up the crowd with Motown & soulful RnB followed by a live acoustic set from Gabrielle. As one of the most recognisable singers from the 90s (mostly due to her signature eye patch), expect loud and tuneful renditions of Dreams from, well, everybody.

Action man Tom Hardy plays the iconic Road Warrior in the fourth adrenaline-driven Mad Max thriller. In a stark and parched post-apocalyptic landscape, taciturn anti-hero Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) meets his shaven-headed female counterpart Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) who needs to cross the desert and get home.

So It Goes, a sell-out hit at Edinburgh Fringe 2014, explores the light and dark sides of grief in a playful, deeply personal show. Presented by On The Run theatre company, Hannah has always wanted to talk about her dad but since he died, she hasn’t quite managed it. Not one to be defeated, she’s enlisted her friend David to help her on a journey through memory, laughter and sorrow.

Jonny Depp is an admirer: “Taraf de Haïdouks are the greatest musicians I know – they play a music which expresses the most intense joy, and have this gift to make you feel alive.” Based in the Romanian village of Clejani, gypsy band Taraf de Haidouks and their dozen-strong line-up create a mix of frenetic dance tunes, medieval ballads and passionate Roma love songs.

The Northern Quarter Market will return for the third time this weekend. 35 of the best market traders in Manchester will be selling everything from mid-century homewares and ethical gifts to cult crafts and organic t-shirts. You can also enjoy lunch from one of the popular food stalls while sitting in the square with musical accompaniment from Leonard Skully Records. There will be a wide variety of artisan produce on offer including Winter Tarn Farm’s organic cheese, eggs and butter, Manchester Veg boxes, sausages and bacon from Bobby's Bangers, bread and wine from Bakerie, and ales from Tatton Brewery.
Citydash is back for a second outing in Manchester. Run, sneak, scheme and succeed in this high-energy street game created by Fire Hazard Games and hosted by Playfuel. Run for checkpoints, replan on the fly as the map changes, and duck for cover as the patrolling guards close in. Or take it more strategically, rack your brains to solve cryptic clues, and keep your eyes open for bonus points. However you play, you can watch the live scoreboard for updates and battle it out with nearby teams.
