IT SEEMS that if you’re aiming to get a bit of that feel-good festive factor, doing it Danish-style with a spot of 'Hygge' is the only way to go this year.
There'll be a roaring fire and fireworks display at the weekend finale on Sunday
Confidential’s L’Oréal Blackett has already explored the home comforts of Hygge, but now you can get snuggly at the Whitworth Gallery's 'Frost Fair' on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December from 11am – 7pm.
The two-day programme of free activities will include an environmentally sustainable ice rink, live music and short film screenings on an outdoor cinema in the Art Garden.
Outdoor events company, Walk The Plank, will perform The Ice Queen & The Ice Queen’s Courtyard, bringing puppetry and light displays to the theatrical mix.
There are also plenty of opportunities to get your Christmas shopping done with all sorts of market stalls. Enjoy yourself while you do it with local craft ales from Cloudwater Brewery and international street food.
The finale of the weekend is a chance to don your mittens and wrap up warm for a roaring fire and a fireworks display on Sunday evening.
If you’re getting frostbite, indoor gallery activities for all ages are available throughout the weekend.
Instead of crass commercialism and cheap tinsel, The Frost Fair is inspired by warmth, well-being and the beauty of the Northern Lights.
So if muzak carols are already driving you round the twist, don’t come over all Scrooge, just head to the Whitworth for some artsy togetherness.
