AT CONFIDENTIAL, we’re a pretty sociable bunch. In fact, we even went out to celebrate Thanksgiving together at All Star Lanes despite the fact that none of us are American. (When it comes to turkey dinner burgers, you don’t need an excuse.) That’s where our friendship was sorely tested by one of the burning issues of the day, namely, the correct way of eating a turkey dinner burger. It almost ended in fisticuffs.

They’re my favourite thing about Christmas

So many factions, so many different ideas. How do you eat yours?

The turkey dinner burger was a monster: breaded fried turkey burger, homemade stuffing, melted Monterey Jack cheese, treacle-cured bacon, cranberry sauce, mayo, red onion, tomato and lettuce served with a saucepan of gravy and sweet potato fries. It’s quite something, but how do you eat it?

Christmas in a bun

Dipping and dunking proved the most popular. Chips, burger, piggy in a blanket – everything went into that saucepan and came out covered in some of the tastiest gravy you’ll ever try.
You could always drizzle a little gravy inside your burger in the same way you’d add a splodge of ketchup which might work. We wouldn’t know. Wasting the gravy seemed very naughty and who knows, Santa might be watching.
I went for cutlery. I know, I know, nobody wants to look like David Cameron at a barbecue but in my defence I’d used a lot of gravy. I drowned the burger in a whole saucepan of gravy because I didn’t want to miss a single drop.
You could always go for full-on gravy and dirty fingers. Are you brave enough?

However you eat it, one thing we all agreed, was that the turkey dinner burger is a whole load of fun. Hands-on messiness, a secret sagey stuffing surprise hidden within the burger and a jaunty pig-in-blanket skewered to the top. In fact, it elicited the following cry, which must surely be the last word on the turkey dinner burger: “Oh my god. I love pigs-in-blankets. They’re my favourite thing about Christmas.”

The All Star Lanes turkey dinner burger might well be your favourite thing about Christmas. Get yourself down to All Star Lanes and find out. Just one more thing, let us know how you eat yours on @mcrconfidential and @AllStarLanesMCR.
