AN estate conveyancer who fraudulently used her father-in-law’s disabled badge to park a BMW for free in Manchester city centre has been ordered to pay over £1,500.

Maloney admitted that she had been using her father-in-law’s disabled badge for months to park for free. When asked why she had been using the badge she said, "To park up in town and go to work".

Janette Marie Maloney, aged 50 of 28 Kathkin Avenue, Crumpsall was fined £900 and ordered to pay £613.09 in costs along with a £15 victim surcharge by Manchester Magistrates Court on Wednesday 19 September 2012.

On Wednesday 18th April 2012 one of Manchester City Council’s blue badge enforcement officers saw Maloney park a black BMW in a pay and display bay on King Street in Manchester city centre

She then placed a disabled badge on her dashboard before walking away. The vehicle was put under surveillance for a number of days and Maloney was again seen parking her vehicle in a pay and display bay and continuing to display a disabled person’s badge.

The enforcement officer made enquiries with other authorities as well as social services and on completion of the surveillance Maloney was invited in for an interview.

Maloney admitted that she had been using her father-in-law’s disabled badge for months to park for free. When asked why she had been using the badge she said, "To park up in town and go to work".

Maloney failed to attend Manchester Magistrates Court and her case was heard in her absence following an investigation by Manchester City Council’s blue badge enforcement officer.
