Get your skates on, it's only there until the end of the year
DRINKS and rinks are on the cards for Friday, when you need to get your skates on and slide on over to MediaCityUK for the unveiling of your annual skating experience. Following a season on First Street, this year the Manchester Ice Rink pops up in Salford Quays, along with a Christmas market and light festival, plus The Retreat – a warm and welcoming winter cabin where skaters and non-skaters can enjoy a sitdown and a hot Vimto.
The 500 square foot real ice undercover rink can welcome up to 200 skaters at one time
Overlooking the ice, the cosy Alpine chalet-style haven comes complete with twinkling fairy lights, faux furs and plenty of warm nooks and crannies in which to snuggle up and take on a Christmas glow… or maybe that’ll be thanks to the hot cider, homemade mulled wine or draft beers, or the hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream if you’re hitting the ice (hopefully not literally).
It’s the first time Blue Martini Group’s Manchester Ice Rink brand has come to MediaCityUK, and the 500 square foot real ice undercover rink can welcome up to 200 skaters at one time. Promising a magical destination for all the family, there are Penguin Helpers for little ones and the option of hiring the rink for school groups or corporate parties, making it a go-to for office gatherings. Jason Williams from Blue Martini Group said: “The rink along with The Retreat will be a fantastic addition to the festive fun happening down at the Quays creating a really special festive destination this Christmas. It’s the perfect family attraction, as well as a great spot for after-work celebrations.”
Manchester Ice Rink at MediaCityUK will be open from 15th November to 5th January, Monday to Friday from 3pm (from 10am during Christmas school holidays) and from 10am on Saturday and Sunday. Prices for an hour-long skating session cost £13 for adults and £11 for children.
The Retreat will be open from 2pm Monday to Friday from 15th November until the start of the school holidays, then from 10am until 10pm until the end of the season. Happy Hour is 5-7pm Monday to Friday and discounts are available with an ice skating ticket.
