THIS is the funniest, silliest tour in Manchester: a trawl through a compendium of city centre boozers with loads of classic stories about Manchester drinking. It's led by Confidential editor Jonathan Schofield.

The city’s drinking history is peopled by an array of eccentric individuals falling over, doing naughty things, making political protests and generally living it up.

It’s an interactive tour too, so whilst you enjoy your favourite tipple, be it real ale, mineral water or a single malt, the leader of the Pub Walk, Confidential editor and registered tour guide Jonathan Schofield, will regale you with a history of Mancunian drinking, past and present.

The city’s drinking history is peopled by an array of eccentric individuals falling over, doing naughty things, making political protests and generally living it up.

The tour also underlines how significant the pub has been in national and local history.

To finish off we conclude with a brief dipsomaniac quiz in which guests can win ‘interesting’ local prizes. This isn’t a Campaign for Real Ale 200 question three hour quiz involving questions such as the specific gravity of Old Scrote’s Dead Dog Ale from 1970 – but a silly and brief, eight question affair in which the quizmaster might cheat.

You will learn and laugh. And after a few drinks maybe fall over.

We may or may not be going to the pub pictured above.

Book here. Or just turn up.

The tour lasts two hours and costs £8 per person (now, now, that doesn’t include your drinks of course, but it does include the stories, the prizes and the jolly japes). The tour takes place this Thursday 6 December at 6pm starting from the Visitors Information Centre on the corner of Parker Street and Portland Street. Jonathan Schofield is the best guide I've ever had in the world, great at communication and for knowledge. I suppose I should say probably the best guide in the world though like - you know - the famous Danish company Carlsberg's advertisement.
